This architect's rendition shown below portrays the “vision” of the UCOH master site plan update. It is the culmination of more than six months work starting with the congregational survey and including numerous meetings involving many UCOH board, congregation and staff members working with the Heimsath Architects firm.
This is not a final architectural design and is not the exact location of the new buildings shown. This will be accomplished during the detailed design period.
The objective of the plan is to establish the long range vision so that specific needs in each area are more effectively addressed in the context of the longer range goals. The master plan contemplates three phases and is quite flexible to adapt the schedule and exact details of the phases to the church’s needs as they develop.
Phase 1: The central feature of this phase is a “Multi-Purpose Activity Building” which is the two-story building with skylights for natural lighting, positioned behind the current church. This building addresses the highest priority needs as defined in the survey last March and as further developed during the subsequent process. It includes space for an expanded children’s ministry and a large, high ceiling space. This large room will be used for such things as weddings and receptions, sit down dinners for 350-400 people, large workshops and classes, children’s performances, and will serve as “Friendship Hall" when the new sanctuary is built later. This facility will include an expanded kitchen and larger restroom facilities and is expected to provide numerous revenue producing opportunities from weddings and receptions to workshops and community events, etc. This phase will also include new connecting walkways, lighting and additional parking and storage needs.
The preliminary schedule is to complete Phase 1 in late 2010.
Phase 2: Phase 1 will free space in the current facility which can be repurposed to provide additional minister, staff and volunteer working spaces, seating expansion in the current sanctuary, additional adult classrooms, and an expanded bookstore. This phase is much smaller in scope and can be adjusted as needed to meet needs.
Phase 3: This phase is primarily the new sanctuary accompanied by additional parking and covered walkways connecting the major buildings. The new sanctuary location may require some relatively small scope repurposing of space in the current building to better position people and functions in order to be more effective. The schedule and detail design of this phase is also flexible to accommodate needs.
