Spiritual Path
Sherry found UCOH in 2001 after growing up Methodist and later spending years as an agnostic. She had long felt a connection to the Divine and to the unseen, influenced by her family background and personal spiritual experiences. Unity provided her with a spiritual home where she could continue exploring and deepening her beliefs.
Educational/Professional Background
Sherry brings decades of experience in business, education, strategy, and advocacy. In 1979, she founded the Austin Wellness Center to promote alternative health services. She also founded the first massage school in Texas and helped establish educational standards for the profession.
She chaired the Texas chapter of the American Massage Association committee that advocated for changes to Texas massage laws and helped develop regulations for the Texas Department of Health. She has also served as a strategic advisor to business owners, helping them identify new approaches to achieving their goals.

Sherry has substantial board and committee leadership experience across nonprofit, educational, and professional organizations.

Professional advocacy: Created and chaired the committee responsible for advancing Texas massage licensing legislation, working to establish professional recognition and appropriate regulatory standards.
Sherry’s experience demonstrates a history of organizational leadership, governance, committee development, advocacy, and fundraising.

Sherry has volunteered with children’s Sunday programs and served as a Greeter.
She also created and chaired the committee that organized two annual women’s weekend retreats before COVID. The retreats generated thousands of dollars for UCOH and provided member scholarships.

I have been a member of UCOH since 2003 and began here shortly after I moved to Austin. Being a native Texan but first time living in Austin.
I was kind of floundering at the time and through a course of synchronistic events was guided to Unity and found a community, a spiritual home that worked for me. I have really never been a religious person but always believed in God, considering myself a spiritual person.
After all these years, this is the first time I have felt a pull to serve on the board. I want to be a part of the new direction and growth of UCOH! This is an extraordinary time for Unity and I really love being a part of this amazing movement and expansion, ideally on the board and if not on the board, I will do my part as a member.
I'm truly grateful for this opportunity to serve!
Love and blessings,
Paul

Spiritual Path
Unity helped save my life. I found it in college after leaving the church I grew up in, and its teachings and community gave me a spiritual home when I needed one. Having grown up largely in Austin, I had driven past UCOH’s arch countless times before returning from college and finding my own community there.
Today, I love the weekly rhythm of our church: the familiar faces, the worship, the atmosphere, and the relationships that deepen over time. Through the changes and challenges of recent years, serving this community has remained a steady commitment.
The example of Jesus Christ, the work of Rudolf Steiner, and the wisdom of many spiritual traditions inform my life. I tend to listen more than I speak, and I look for places where what I can offer meets a genuine need. My spiritual practice includes learning to recognize how my own growth and well-being are connected to the good of the whole.
Educational and Professional Background
My background is in classical acting, with experience across theatre, education, ministry, production, and communications. I have served as an Associate Artistic Director, taught young people in theatre and homeschool settings, and worked in nonprofit arts organizations. I also hold John Maxwell leadership certification.
That work has taught me to bring people together around a shared purpose while attending to the details that make it possible. I enjoy imagining new possibilities and doing the practical work to bring them to life.
Previous Board Experience and Approach to Service
Although I have not served on UCOH’s Board, my leadership experience has prepared me to contribute. Several members of the congregation encouraged me to consider serving, and I take their trust seriously.
I understand board service as a responsibility to steward the church’s resources and support our newly hired minister. I would bring my nonprofit experience, creativity, and willingness to work through specifics to help strengthen our financial footing and explore sustainable sources of income. I also hope to help younger generations find a place here, while serving the whole congregation.
Volunteer and Service Activities at UCOH
My service has centered on sound, production, and worship: operating the soundboard for online services, singing, sharing announcements, and facilitating our annual fundraising auction.
These roles have allowed me to serve both behind the scenes and in front of the congregation. As a board member, I would bring that same care to helping UCOH remain a spiritual home for those who already love it and those who have yet to walk through its doors.
Peace & Blessings,
Dawson

Spiritual Path
Greg’s spiritual journey began in Catholicism, where he was raised in a predominantly Catholic community in eastern Pennsylvania. During high school and college, he became less involved with organized religion and developed a strong interest in using mathematics and science to understand the universe.
After marrying Loretta and becoming a father, Greg sought a spiritual community that was not centered on Christianity or Judaism. He and Loretta joined the Ethical Society of St. Louis, which emphasized ethics, reason, and shared responsibility. After moving to northern Virginia, they sought a deeper spiritual dimension and were introduced to Unitarian Universalism (UU), attracted by its emphasis on service and teachings drawn from multiple spiritual traditions. They subsequently participated in UU congregations in northern Virginia, McKinney, and Cedar Park.
After moving to the Austin area, Greg and Loretta explored UCOH and several Christian churches. They ultimately felt most at home at UCOH. Greg describes UCOH as providing the blend of spirituality and personal action that he had been seeking.
Educational/Professional Background:
Greg describes himself as a lifelong student of spirituality, human behavior, organizations, music, technology, finance, and business. He continually seeks to learn in these areas and apply that knowledge to his personal life and service at UCOH. His experience with finance and organizational management has been particularly valuable to UCOH. He has developed a strong focus on financial sustainability, including increasing gifts and tithes, developing income-generating activities, controlling expenses, and preparing the organization for significant future financial obligations.
Among his recent financial contributions to UCOH, Greg:
• Helped secure approximately $300,000 through the Employee Retention Credit (ERC).
• Helped generate more than $40,000 in facility-rental income by introducing a day-habilitation organization as a facility user. • Helped reduce expenses by eliminating a $1,000-per-month CPA expense.
• Initiated discussions with potential lenders regarding UCOH’s $1 million balloon payment due in April 2028.
• Initiated the development of the Income Generation Team and intends to support implementation of its recommendations.
Previous Board Experience
Greg has served as UCOH Board Treasurer for more than three years, following service on the Budget and Finance Committee. His focus has been strengthening UCOH’s financial sustainability through increased giving, income generation, expense reduction, and financial planning.
He also serves as Treasurer of the Endowment Fund Management Board.
Volunteer and Service Activities at UCOH
Greg has participated in a wide range of volunteer, leadership, and service activities at UCOH, including:
• Serving as Treasurer on the UCOH Board of Trustees.
• Serving on the Budget and Finance Committee.
• Serving on the Endowment Fund Management Board as Treasurer.
• Serving on the Prayer Chaplain Team.
• Serving on the Conflict Facilitation Team.
• Participating in workshops focused on Vision, Mission, and Core Values.

• Participating in annual congregational meetings.
• Helping build and maintain the UCOH garden.
• Serving as Night Manager, a role that is no longer needed.
• Serving on Hands on UCOH.
• Serving on Hands on Housing.
• Serving on the Counting Team.
• Serving with the Ladies' High Tea.
• Assisting UCOH staff with A/V technology issues.
• Participating in the Men’s Fellowship Network and several men’s retreats.
• Providing set-up and clean-up support for church events as needed.
Overall, Greg brings a combination of spiritual seeking, financial expertise, organizational experience, and extensive hands-on service to UCOH. His involvement has particularly focused on financial sustainability and organizational stewardship, while also extending to community-building, facilities, technology, events, and broader congregational activities.
