The UCOH Volunteer Ministry is pleased to announce that John Poole is the Volunteer Of The Month for September 2021. John’s testimonial on his long experience as a UCOH Volunteer is below, as well as a brief video from John at the bottom of this post.

I’ve been attending UCOH since 2007 and became a member in 2008, way back in the days prior to The Path Class orientation for new members.

Currently, I program the Electronic Message Board every week. But, I have also volunteered for several Hands on Housing projects, and served as a waiter at the Annual Ladies’ High Tea. For many years, I have volunteered on the Facilities Coordinator Team, as well as performing in the choir and in the Holiday Extravaganza as a member of the “Prancing Papa” dance troupe.

I have always had a great time volunteering at UCOH. It has been a great honor to maintain and update the Electronic Message Board, which helps to spread the mission of UCOH in the community. I love the idea that I may have managed to brighten the day of someone driving past or to UCOH on Anderson Mill every time they see the messages on the EMB.

As a member of UCOH, I think it is important to realize that this church and this community is yours. By claiming an ownership stake in the UCOH Community, it becomes natural to look for ways that you can be the change you want to see in it. Volunteering and contributing your spiritual gifts is a powerful way to make a difference. The staff and the ministers certainly have their roles to play, but that is only a small percentage of what this Church can be. The bigger part of the community’s success comes from its members and the contributions they make as volunteers and stewards.

It is my hope and prayer that UCOH continues to be a beautiful and vital contributor to the quality of life in the Austin community.

Congratulations, John. The UCOH Community continues to be blessed by your presence and and sacred service to our spiritual home.
