Changes

On my first morning in our new home in Cedar Park, I was greeted by a small green lizard that was shedding its skin. It was perched on the windowsill as I opened the shade to let in the sunshine. It seemed undisturbed by my activity and kept sitting there without any worry or care. I realize that this might be a common sight in Texas, but I chose to see it as a message from the universe.

After a brief chat with the lizard (yes, I talk with other species), I went online to explore the spiritual meaning of a lizard shedding its skin. I wasn't surprised to find that it symbolizes regeneration, rebirth, and transformation. There are other interpretations, but this is the one I connect with most and prefer.

I choose to see this as a time of regeneration for me and J as we make this significant change in our lives. Although we leave much of our lives behind in Colorado, we both have high hopes and visions for our new life here in Texas.

I also choose to see this as a time of rebirth and renewal for Unity Church of the Hills. I celebrate and honor the meaningful and lasting contributions made by Rev. Cynthia during her time here. She has helped to lay a strong foundation for the transformation and growth of this ministry. I am humbled and honored to be given the opportunity to lead us into what is next for this thriving community. I look forward to doing that in collaboration with the staff, the board, the sacred servers, and everyone involved in this remarkable ministry. I see us accomplishing great things together within and beyond the arch.

I am grateful for my little green friend who showed up at the right and perfect time in the right and perfect place to remind me of several things.

·         To embrace the new, we must be willing to let go of the former.

·         Sit quietly and embrace the change undisturbed by the world around us.

·         Do not attempt to force change; allow it to happen naturally.

·         Even a little green lizard is the presence of God. Wake Up! Pay attention!

I invite you to join me as we release what has been and embrace and celebrate the future together.

In grateful service,

Rev. David
