Minister Search Team is Forming

As a first step in hiring a new minister, the Board will be forming a Search Team. We are looking for committed members of UCOH to serve on this team over the coming 7-12 months. It will require a significant time commitment during that period to ensure we find the perfect minister for our spiritual home.

If you would like to be considered for this team, please let us know by submitting your name on a form in the foyer or online https://unityhills.churchcenter.com/people/forms/740819 by Sunday, May 19. As well, if you know someone whom you believe will make strong contributions to the team, encourage them to submit their name. In either case, please  look carefully at the Qualifications, Qualities, skills, experience, and Limitations sections below for examples of what we are looking for.

If you are interested in serving on the Minister Search Team, we also encourage you to attend the Minister Search Process Congregational Meeting on Sunday afternoon, May 19th after the 11:30 service to learn more about the process and ask any questions you might have. Qualifications (requirements)

  • Member of UCOH for at least one year
  • Commitment to Unity principles and Unity Church of the Hills
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Willingness to spend significant time on the process (likely 2-4 meetings per month with bursts of activity during certain parts of the process)

Qualities, skills, experience

  • A strong spiritual focus and spiritual practice. A willingness to let Spirit guide and direct the process.
  • Ability to see the big picture of the church and the interactions of minister, board, staff and volunteers.
  • Experience in multiple areas of service as a church volunteer and in leadership positions.
  • Open-minded without a preset fixed belief of what type of minister we are looking for.
  • Open to results of UCOH’s current exploration of the transition process and what is true for our congregation.
  • Past organizational hiring experience, ability to interview and evaluate, perhaps some HR experience.
  • Insight into relationships and people dynamics.
  • Discernment: the ability to see the good in others but also question “is this person the right fit?”
  • Ability and willingness to look for a minister that is best for our congregation overall, rather than for a minister that you personally like.

Limitations

  • Not an employee or contractor at UCOH
  • Not a spouse, significant other or family member of a board member or staff member
  • Not on the transition team
