Business Manager/Accounting – Job Description

 Position Summary

The Church Business Manager is responsible for managing all accounting, information technology, human resources and certain administrative functions for Unity Church of the Hills of Austin, Texas.  The position reports directly to the Senior Minister and will work in accordance with Unity Principles with all staff and members of Unity Church of the Hills.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Is responsible for all accounting and finance functions for the church, including general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and budget and financial reporting.  Reviews, evaluates and implements accounting systems, policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates and oversees independent audit and preparation of annual tax documents.
  • Responsible to train, supervise, develop and motivate the contribution of the Finance Associate and the Facilities Manager; also the IT staff person regarding IT investment, expenditures and infrastructure.
  • Oversees and manages all aspects of the human resource function of the church.
  • Works closely with the Executive Director in recruiting staff and recommending compensation structure.
  • Coordinate with the Executive Director to ensure workflow among all office staff is efficient and focused on church mission.
  • Coordinates Church policy and procedure updates.
  • Assists with strategic planning and special projects as required by the senior minister as well as any other assigned duties.
  • Is a non-voting participant at the Board of Trustees meetings.  Works to support Board initiatives.

 Education, Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business or equivalent experience.
  • Previous direct supervision and managerial experience, preferably in a church, non-profit setting.
  • Working knowledge of data collection and analysis.  Strong process, organizational, problem solving and analytical skills with an ability to independently manage and set priorities.
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills to both small and large groups.
  • Willingness to build strong relationships with the Senior Minister, staff, church members and the Board of Trustees.
  • Highly proficient in Quick books and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint).
