Reports to: Rev. Steve Bolen, Estimated Start Date: May 28, 2020

Weekly Hours: 30-32, Position open through: June 15, 2020

Overview: Finance is a central ministry at UCOH. It is an often unseen but critical part of the administration of the church. The Director of Finance will be a professional who is experienced in running an accounting department, needing little supervision. This person will serve on the Strategy Team. Flexibility is required, as this is a fast-paced environment where requests for information are frequent. The ability to see patterns and analyze data is needed, as well as ability to prioritize work for self and staff. Applicants will be asked to complete an assessment tool for accounting knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years experience, (10 years a plus); Non-profit/church experience preferred
  • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills to both large and small groups
  • Direct supervision and managerial experience
  • Highly proficient in MS Office Suite and accounting systems (QuickBooks a plus)
  • Experience in GAAP Accounting

Job Responsibilities:

Ministry Management

  • Responsible for all accounting and finance functions for the church, including general accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, budget and financial reporting
  • Reviews, evaluates and implements accounting systems, controls, policies and procedures
  • Manages accounting/finance staff to ensure that month-end processes are completed timely
  • Oversee sales and employment tax reporting, annual 1099’s and W-2’s
  • Manage business insurance, including preparing for quotes, and reporting for audit
  • Maintain listing of fixed assets, report additions, deletions and depreciation
  • Manage IT processes/requirements for finance staff and UCOH as needed
  • Manage new employee paperwork, maintain human resources files, advise on HR policies
  • Manage cash flow for the church, including proper accounting for funds

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare journal entries, review general ledger, ensure proper classification of entries
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts, reconcile certain bank accounts
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and analysis
  • Present monthly financial information to Budget & Finance Team and Board of Trustees
  • Prepare annual budget draft, work with ministers, B&F Team and Board to finalize budget
  • Report for endowment fund and act as staff consultant to the Legacy Team
  • Prepare for and manage year-end audit/review process by outside CPA firm

Assisting Team Members

  • Assist with event pricing, report on event financial results
  • Support ministers in budgetary issues, including staffing costs
  • Prepare reports and analyses as requested by Board of Trustees
  • Assist facilities staff with costing of improvements, repair
  • Provide monthly financial information to ministries
